Conducts medical laboratory tests to help diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases. Works in hospital labs, diagnostic centers, or research facilities handling blood, tissue, and other samples. Performs analyses in areas such as hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, and transfusion medicine, ensuring accuracy and quality control in test results.

Aufgabenbereich:

Responsible for preparing and analyzing patient specimens using various laboratory equipment and techniques (e.g., microscopes, analyzers, PCR machines). Follows strict protocols for sample handling, reagent preparation, and instrument calibration. Performs quality control checks and participates in proficiency testing. Documents and enters test results into the hospital information system, flagging critical values for immediate attention. Maintains laboratory cleanliness and adheres to safety regulations (e.g., proper disposal of biohazard materials).

Bildungsanforderungen:

Completed training as a medical-technical laboratory assistant (MTLA) or a related laboratory science degree. Certification/registration as required in Germany. Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, attention to detail, and ability to use laboratory information systems.

Kernaufgaben:

Perform blood counts and blood typing; culture and identify bacteria from patient samples; run biochemical assays for enzymes, glucose, lipids, etc.; prepare microscope slides (e.g., blood smears, tissue sections) and perform staining procedures; operate automated analyzers and validate their outputs; keep inventory of lab reagents and consumables; collaborate with pathologists or lab physicians when unusual results occur to troubleshoot methods or run confirmatory tests.
