Provides emergency medical care to patients in pre-hospital settings. As a first responder, attends to medical emergencies and accidents, delivering life-saving interventions on-scene and during transport to hospitals. Operates as part of an ambulance crew, often in high-pressure situations, to stabilize patients, from trauma victims to individuals with sudden illnesses.
Aufgabenbereich:
Responsible for quickly assessing a patient's condition upon arrival at an emergency scene (checking airway, breathing, circulation, level of consciousness), providing necessary care such as CPR, defibrillation, bleeding control, fracture immobilization, and administering medications as permitted by protocols. Communicates the situation and care given to the receiving hospital via radio, and documents the care provided on run sheets. Maintains the ambulance's medical equipment and supplies, ensuring readiness at all times, and drives safely and efficiently if required. Additionally, a Paramedic often comforts and educates patients and relatives in crisis situations and works alongside firefighters, police, or other emergency personnel cohesively.
Bildungsanforderungen:
Completed training as a Notfallsanitäter (paramedic) in Germany (a three-year vocational training program). Certification in advanced life support (ACLS) and trauma life support (PHTLS/ITLS) is highly advantageous. Must stay physically fit and undergo regular continuing education to keep skills up to date (including annual recertifications like CPR).

Kernaufgaben:
Respond to emergency calls and arrive at scenes promptly; perform primary and secondary patient surveys; provide interventions such as oxygen therapy, airway intubation, IV line insertion, drug administration for pain or cardiac support as authorized; use ambulance equipment like EKG monitors or ventilators; lift and transport patients safely on stretchers; collaborate with emergency doctors (Notärzte) when they are on board for critical cases; after calls, restock materials (bandages, IV fluids) and decontaminate equipment and the ambulance to be ready for the next call.
